Fox News, NBC give Donald Trump two platforms to stoke 2016 talk

Lest there be any doubt that billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump is once again openly considering an unlikely run for president, both NBC and Fox News has it covered.

Trump appeared Monday on the morning news programs of both Fox News and NBC’s cable news outlet MSNBC for guest spots, during which he dragged out his routine of suggesting that he’s “seriously” considering a run for president.

Incidentally, Trump is employed by NBC and is a long-standing recurring guest Mondays on Fox. Trump landed his gig at Fox in 2011. On NBC, Trump hosts the reality game show ‘Celebrity Apprentice.’

On Fox’s “Fox & Friends,” co-host Steve Doocy opened the door for Trump. “I know you haven’t decided officially, but it sure sounds like you’re gonna do it,” said Doocy. “Well, I may surprise a lot of people,” Trump gamely replied.

Roughly an hour later, Trump was on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” the same scenario played out. “When will we know whether you’re going to run for president?” said the show’s host Joe Scarborough. “I would say over the next three months,” Trump teased.

In 2011, Trump proved to be a headline magnet for the news media by spending months stating that he was considering a bid for the White House, all the while characterizing President Obama as an ineffective leader and suggesting that he may have been born in Kenya and thus not eligible to serve as commander-in-chief.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story misstated Trump’s position at Fox. He has a long-standing recurring role with the network. The Examiner apologizes for the error.
