AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka endorsed a strike by the crew of the SyFy channel film “Sharknado 3,” which is currently filming scenes in Washington.
Crew members belonging to the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, walked off the set Wednesday, complaining about the conditions under the Asylum, the company producing the film.
Workers picketed an effort by the company to shoot scenes in front of the White House Wednesday. Trumka subsequently invited the strikers over to the AFL-CIO’s headquarters, which is just a block from the White House.
“Welcomed some of great @IATSE guys on strike from the #Sharknado3 crew to the house of labor — their house,” Trumka said in a tweet.
In another tweet, he said, “Not that she has a good track record, but did @MicheleBachmann just cross the Sharknado picket line @ThomasARoberts.”
