Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was sentenced to death on Wednesday, after apologizing to the victims of the 2013 attack that killed three and injured more than 200 people.
“I sentence you to the penalty of death by execution,” Judge George O’Toole said.
Many have accused Tsarnaev of being unrepentant for his crime over the last two years. In court, he acknowledged his actions and said he was sorry.
“I would like to apologize to the victims and the survivors,” said 21-year-old Tsarnaev. “I did do it. I am sorry for the lives I have taken, for the suffering I have caused, and for the terrible damage I have done.”
Tsarnaev was found guilty in April, two years after the attack that, carried out by him and his late brother Tamerlan, killed three people and injured more than 260 others. In May, the jury that convicted him unanimously decided he should be sentenced to death.
In court Wednesday, the federal judge simply carried out the wishes of the jury and sentenced him to death.
