Republican presidential contender Rick Santorum says bringing jobs back to the U.S. from China will expand the economy while fighting climate change.
China is starting to reorient its economy from manufacturing to a service economy, he said. That provides an opportunity for American manufacturing, he said during the Fox News debate in Des Moines Thursday.
“And by the way, do you want to solve global climate change?” he asked. “Take two million jobs from China … and moving them back here to U.S. will produce one-fifth the CO2 when we make things.”
Santorum reiterated that message throughout the debate.
He also said he would roll back key rules imposed by the Environmental Protection Agency that are harming economic development in the United States, such as the Waters of the U.S. rule and ozone regulations.
“If you want to help the environment, bring back jobs from China,” he added.
