Who would have thought running for office could jeopardize your chances of being on a game show?
Nearly 200 wannabe contestants for the popular game show “Jeopardy” tried out in D.C. this week and had to check “yes” or “no” to this random question: “Are you running for political office?”
According to contest producer Maggie Speak, this question is on every application and is not specific to the politically driven District.
“If someone is running for office, you’d have to offer their opponent equal airtime [because of the equal-time rule], so it’s just something we have to be aware of,” she said.
It doesn’t mean your chances are shot, she added.
“It just depends on when the election is, you know, the timing of things,” Speak said. “Once the process is over, we can get them on after the fact.”
