Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders took some time out of his presidential campaign rally in Portland, Maine, Wednesday to give a shout out to Phish drummer and Vermont native Jon Fishman.
“Let me thank one of Vermont’s heroes, who is now transplanted, Jon Fishman,” Sanders said. “Jon and Phish have made New England proud. They are one of the great bands in the country, have been one of the great bands in this country. So Jon, we thank you very much.”
Fishman officially endorsed Sanders in a February YouTube video where he explained exactly why he respects the Democratic presidential candidate so much.
“I am supporting, voting for Bernie Sanders because I have been watching him for 32 years,” Fishman said in the video. “I moved to Burlington the year he became mayor. I watched his campaign there. I found him to be a very honest person who worked hard to get done the things he said he would. That I have found to be consistent with his entire political career.”
Not to be outdone when it comes to musical endorsements, Hillary Clinton held a campaign event Wednesday night at Radio City Music Hall in New York City featuring performances from pop stars Katy Perry and Elton John.
“This is a very important year for America,” John said, according to The New York Times. “And she’s the only hope you have.”
The Clinton rally also featured support from actors Julianne Moore and Jamie Foxx.
