Hold the White Russians
As we read President Bush’s recent interview from the Oval Office with Middle East Braodcasting TV, we couldn’t help but be reminded of “The Dude,” Jeff Bridges’ legendary character from the film “The Big Lebowski.”
For the uninitiated, the film concerns The Dude’s efforts to be compensated for his ruined rug, which he boasts “really tied the room together.”
Which brings us back to Friday, when the president said that one of the first decisions he “ever made as President — but I was actually President-elect — was, what color rug do you want?”
In this case, he added, he delegated the decision to his wife, Laura. “But I told her, I said, I want the rug to have a message, and that is ‘optimistic guy goes to work here.’ And so, as you can see, the rug really lights up the room. And I am optimistic about the future of the Middle East.”
