Trump’s trade policies assailed by business lobby

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is not a fan of Donald Trump.

A blog post on the business group’s website claims America would suffer under a recession in the first year of a Trump presidency.

“Does a recession sound ‘great’ to you? Does 7 million lost jobs sound like ‘winning?’ No, probably not. And yet, that’s exactly where our country would be headed under Trump’s trade policies,” the chamber’s J.D. Harrison wrote. “The U.S. recession would set in within the first year under Trump’s proposed trade policies, which include a 35 percent tariff on imports from Mexico and a 45 percent tax on goods coming in from China.”

Harrison also expanded his criticism to include all of the remaining presidential candidates because of their opposition to trade agreement proposals promoted by the Obama administration.
