U.S. leaflets warn would-be Islamic State fighters of the ‘meat grinder’

In addition to airstrikes, the U.S. military is conducting a psychological operations campaign against would-be recruits for the Islamic State.

U.S. F-15 Strike Eagles dropped 60,000 leaflets on March 16 over Raqqa, Syria, meant to drive home the point that joining the Islamic State is a death sentence.

The leaflet, which the Pentagon press office shared an image of on Thursday, shows potential recruits lining up at the “Daesh Recruiting Office” and taking a number to be seen by Islamic State fighters. The line leads to a bloodied meat grinder, also labeled “Daesh.” Daesh is a derogatory name for the Islamic State in Arabic.
