So the arugula may not exactly be from the White House garden, but diners in Chicago got to experience what very few Washingtonians got to taste at last month’s state dinner: the entire dinner menu.
On Wednesday night, White House guest chef Marcus Samuelsson’s restaurant C-House Fish and Chops served the full dinner, wine pairings included, to guests. Executive chef Nicole Pederson and pastry chef Toni Roberts, who helped with the state dinner menu, were there to re-create it.
And though a ticket to any state dinner is considered priceless, a little potato and eggplant salad, some red lentil soup, a few green curried prawns, plus dessert will cost Chicago diners $54, with $20 extra for the wines.
A replica of the state dinner also will be served at Samuelsson’s New York eatery Riingo for a week starting Monday.
