According to Jeb Bush, the continued attacks against him by Donald Trump are because of fear.
“I think he is a master at manipulation, and I find it amusing on one level that he constantly attacks me,” Bush said in an interview with “CBS This Morning” Tuesday.
Trump has slammed Bush for months, and has mocked everything from his personality to his political views. Trump’s attacks have picked up over the last few days, just as Bush’s brother, former President George W. Bush, has started campaigning for him in South Carolina ahead of the primary.
“I’m his primary target, and I’m doing so poor in the polls, according to everybody, right? Well, why is that? Why is he going after me each and every day?” the former governor of Florida remarked. “It’s because he fears me, because I’m the only guy standing up to him. I think he is not going to be the conservative party’s nominee.”
Bush also criticized Trump’s record as a conservative, and said he fights back against Trump because someone has to defend the Republican Party.
“Then I get back to thinking, he’s hijacked my party,” he added, noting his conservatism. “Someone has to take a stand.”
