The Secret Service have responded to an intruder who attempted Saturday to jump the fence to cross over onto the White House grounds, according to a report by Fox News.
A law enforcement official said an individual jumped a bike rack on Pennsylvania Avenue and was apprehended before making it to the White House fence. Criminal charges are pending.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer confirmed the intruder on Twitter, but announced the “Individual jumped bike rack on Pennsylvania Ave” but did not reach the White House fence. Spicer commended the Secret Service on their quick reaction.
Secret Service have cleared Lafayette Park, a park adjacent to the White House. Guns were drawn by Secret Service members at the White House.
In a statement, the Secret Service said the individual jumped over the bike rack at approximately 12:43 p.m. “in an apparent attempt to get to the White House Fence.”
“The individual was immediately apprehended by United States Secret Service Uniformed Division Officers before reaching the White House Fence,” the statement added. “As standard operating procedure, Secret Service personnel increased.”
Trump was not at the White House at the time of the incident. He traveled down to Florida to stay at the Mar-a-Lago this weekend.
