Buck McKeon, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, offered his support behind the airstrikes in Syria Monday.
“This is one step in what will be a long fight against [Islamic State]. With strong coalition partners, a capable military, and a clear mission; it is a fight we can win,” the California Republican said in a statement Monday.
McKeon has been a strong supporter of action against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, saying the U.S. must “go all-in” to defeat it at a speech at the American Enterprise Institute on Sept. 11.
“Our men and women in uniform are once again striking an enemy that threatens our freedom. I pray for their safety and the success of the mission,” McKeon said in his statement.
The Pentagon announced Monday that U.S. and coalition nations had begun airstrikes in Syria against the Islamic State.
