Scarborough: Trump ‘losing’ with ‘Pocahontas’ taunt

MSNBC host and former Republican congressman Joe Scarborough said Tuesday that Donald Trump’s retorts to Hillary Clinton’s campaign show he’s losing the race, and that calling Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., “Pocahontas” makes him look petty.

“This is when you know you’re losing a debate,” said Scarborough. “When your opponent is talking about working class Americans and fighting hard to bring working class Americans back into the mainstream of economic life, and you are talking about whether someone is 1/32 Native American and suggesting DNA testing. This is so bizarre.”

Warren spoke at a Clinton campaign event the previous day and called laid into Trump, painting him as unqualified for the presidency and as having a ruthless history in business that would translate into crushing middle and lower-income voters.

Trump supporter and former Sen. Scott Brown, who was unseated in Massachusetts by Warren, responded in a call to reporters by questioning past claims by Warren that she has a Native American background. He said, in jest, that she could prove it by taking a DNA test.

In a separate interview, Trump accused Warren of being “racist” for, he said, trying to advance herself by claiming to be Native American. He also rehashed the “Pocahontas” nickname he had given her in past comments.

“What the hell’ wrong with them?” said Scarborough. “Are they stupid? … This Pocahontas nonsense, this goofy nonsense, they’ve got to stop. It doesn’t work, makes them look small. We’re in the general election.”
