Unlike other political wives (and one wife in particular) whose husbands have weathered the stormy seas of sex scandals in the past, Herman Cain‘s wife — Gloria Cain — is staying quiet. She was scheduled to appear on Fox News Friday for “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren,” but the New York Times is now reporting that she’s canceled her appearance as her husband continues to face scrutiny over sexual harassment claims filed against him in the 1990s when he was CEO of the National Restaurant Association. The source said she still might appear on the program at some point in the future — but one might not expect to see or hear from her for a while. She was absent from his book tour last month, before the he started to spar with the press over the scandal, and he indicated last week that he’s trying to keep her away from the madness of the campaign trail in general. “My wife represents that calm and tranquility that I look forward to seeing when I get home,” he said last week. “She will be introduced in terms of some limited exposure, but it’s not her style for her to be with me on every campaign stop because, No. 1, it’s grueling, and I want her to continue to be the nucleus for that calm and tranquility that you want for your family.”
