It’s not health food — that’s for sure. But pizza and beer were the highlights of President Obama‘s Tuesday fundraiser in St. Louis, where hosts Tom and Robin Carnahan (relatives of Democratic Rep. Russ Carnahan) served guests slices of St. Louis’s own Pi Pizza and Obama’s “Baracktoberfest,” made by local brewery Schlafly Beer, Obama Foodarama reported. The brewery used a lot of Obama’s campaign themes in creating the batch, which is described as a “deep reddish-amber lager” that is “strong and malty with a distinctly hopeful aftertaste.” The small brewery, founded in 1991, has brewed for other politicians, too. They created “Palin Ale,” “McCain’s Maverick APA,” and “Hefebiden Delaware Wheat” during the 2008 campaign, which is also when Obama fell in love with Pi Pizza — even inviting the pizza masters to the White House for a lunch demo after his election. And guests paid top-dollar for Tuesday’s carb-fest with the Commander in Chief, shelling out $25,000 each for tickets.
