Sanders tops Clinton in January fundraising

Sen. Bernie Sanders raised more money Hillary Clinton in a single month for the first time in January, and was able to haul in $5 million more than her.

The Clinton campaign announced Thursday that they raised $15 million January, news they released four days after the Sanders camp released its $20 million figure. December was big for Sanders, as he raised a total of $33.6 million during the entire fourth quarter of 2015.

The Vermont senator also pulled in $3 million after his narrow loss in Monday’s caucuses.

The Clinton campaign also revealed that it raised $5 million for the Democratic National Committee and state parties during the month. In February, Hillary, Bill and Chelsea Clinton are set to hold 32 fundraisers as they look to match Sanders’ fundraising prowess, which has been fueled by small dollar donations.

According to the Sanders camp, over 99.9 percent of its donors have not maxed out on their giving, while three of every five dollars the Clinton camp got came from donors who have already given the maximum amount.

Overall, the former secretary of state has raked in over $130 million, and Sanders has piled up $105 million throughout the race.

The news comes as Sanders continues to hit the former secretary of state over her coziness with Wall Street and the donor class. While Clinton was outraised last month, super PAC’s backing her candidacy have continued to rake in the cash. Priorities USA Action pulled in $10 million in January alone and over $25 million over the past six months.

Sanders does not have a super PAC backing his candidacy.
