Despite Chihuahua loss, Tinsley Mortimer attends Georgetown book party

New York socialite Tinsley Mortimer paid D.C. a visit Wednesday night, smiling prettily for pictures and signing copies of her first novel “Southern Charm” at the Nectar Skin Bar in Georgetown. You’d never know that anything was wrong, but according to the New York Daily News, Mortimer had just gotten word that Bella, her 12-year-old Chihuahua had suffered heart failure and had to be put to sleep. Mortimer’s book, which stars a character named Minty Davenport and parallels her life as a Southern girl turned “it” girl, is dedicated to her trio of Chihuahuas.

Despite the unfortunate news, Mortimer held it together and held court with co-hosts Krista Johnson, Josie Taylor and Ashley Taylor, explaining to Yeas & Nays why she was a fan of the area. “Well, I grew up in Virginia… and I came up to D.C. to Tyson’s Corner, it’s the only place to go shopping,” Mortimer said. “I like it that it’s that sort of hybrid between the South and the North and you’ve got a lot of great fashion, a lot of great girls, but mixed with a more Southern vibe, which I love.”
