You’d think the editors of elegant women’s fashion magazines would learn. But they seem unable to profit from experience, much like Huma Abedin, wife of Anthony Weiner, about whom we all know a lot more than we would like, while Abedin, herself, seems to know and have learned … nothing.
The about-to-be-released September issue of Harper’s Bazaar includes a bylined piece by Ms. Abedin, telling the world (well, the well-frocked and expensively bejeweled part of it, anyway) why it is important that New Yorkers elect her husband mayor.
Quite simply, I love my husband, I love my city, and I believe in what he wants to do for the people of New York. I didn’t grow up in New York, as Anthony did …
And so, revoltingly, on.
Well, long lead times do expose (pardon) magazine editors to this sort of thing. But, then, Harper’s Bazaar could have learned from the example of Vogue’s experiment into the world of politics, which turned out badly. Worse, in fact, since Vogue endorsed, gushingly (it’s the only way they know how) the wife of Syria’s strongman killer Bashar al-Assad:
The article was published just about the time the killing started up in earnest and the magazine had to hustle to get it off the website.
Vogue’s celebrity editor was, unsurprisingly, a prominent supporter of President Obama in the last election and mentioned as a possible ambassador to the Court of St. James.
Of course she was, darlings.
