Democratic National Committee Chairman and former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine is planning to announce a bid for the U.S. Senate in Virginia in 2012 — potentially within the next two weeks. Last month, Kaine told a college class that he was “increasingly likely” to run for the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Jim Webb, according to the DNC. Democrats have been pushing Kaine to run since Webb announced in February he would not seek a second term. Former Virginia Sen. George Allen is among those seeking the Republican nomination for the seat. — David Sherfinski
