What was veteran journalist Chris Wallace doing sitting in Republican operative Karl Rove’s baseball seats?
The “Fox News Sunday” host and his wife, Lorraine, were at the ballpark Tuesday night and were seated by an usher in section 129 — perfect seats behind the Nationals dugout to check out the debut of new pitcher Stephen Strasburg when, in the third inning, a mix-up occurred.
“Suddenly I see people walking down toward us, and it turns out it’s one of Karl Rove’s top staffers, Sheena [Tahilramani], and a fellow who works here at Fox, and couple of other people and they are suddenly looking at Lorraine and me,” Wallace said. It happens that Wallace and his wife plopped down in the wrong seats — seats that actually belonged to Rove. The Wallaces belonged in section 130.
Politico reported Wednesday that Wallace was spotted being ejected from the seats by ushers. The story quoted a source who called the confrontation “awkward” and didn’t quote Wallace because, we hear, Fox News won’t give Politico access to its top talent. Politico didn’t comment.
“We were in the wrong seats — by accident — that part of it is true,” Wallace told Yeas & Nays. “We all laughed about it.”
And Tahilramani clearly isn’t mad. We’re told she offered Wallace Rove’s four tickets for the next time Strasburg pitches.
