President Obama gets artsy with Instagram

Is the Obama campaign trying to promote the image of being quirky and cool?

On the eve of the Iowa Caucuses, President Obama‘s team joined Instagram, a website and corresponding smartphone app that lets users take and post artsy photos by adding filters and borders to the pics. The first photo posted was a behind-the-scenes look at the president giving his speech Tuesday night to Iowa Democrats (using the “Hefe” filter, for those with the app, which adds warmth and saturation to a photograph). A follow-up photo shows supporters watching the speech and uses a filter that gives the image a vintage feel.

The campaign is following the likes of singer Justin Bieber, actress Zooey Deschanel and rapper Snoop Dogg, also news organizations including NPR and ABC World News.

So far it looks like none of the GOP wannabes are following suit, but we hear that sweater vests look quite fetching with the right filter.
