Add one more to the list of candidates who have faced questions over their residency this year.
Former Sen. Larry Pressler, now running as an independent in South Dakota, claimed a homestead tax deduction for an apartment in Foggy Bottom, according to Politico.
He joins Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts, Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu and Alaska Senate candidate Dan Sullivan, who have been dogged by questions about their ties to the states they are running in.
Roberts took heat — and even an unsuccessful legal challenge — for not spending enough time in Kansas. Landrieu also beat a lawsuits that argued she did not technically live in her state, while Sullivan also was criticized for taking a tax break in Maryland.
It remains to be seen if these attacks will hit home on Election Day.
The RealClearPolitics poll average gives Sullivan a 4.8 percentage point lead over Begich. A SurveyUSA poll shows Pressler trailing Republican nominee and former Gov. Mike Rounds by just three points.
