Poll says Trump is ruining the GOP’s image

A majority of people think Trump is ruining how people view the Republican Party, and two thirds of voters have a negative opinion of him, making Trump the least popular candidate still on the trail.

According to a Wall Street Journal/NBC poll released on Wednesday, six in ten voters believe he’s hurting the GOP’s image.

Only 7 percent believe that Trump represents something positive for the GOP. But Republican voters are split on this issue, as 45 percent believe he represents something positive and 43 percent say he is harmful.

The poll says 53 percent of Republicans say they’d be satisfied with Trump as the eventual nominee. In contrast, 78 percent of Democratic voters say they’d be happy with Clinton, and in 2012, 72 percent of GOP voters said they’d be happy with Mitt Romney as the nominee.

“It may be fair to say that the GOP seems to be in disarray with the very real prospect that Donald Trump may be its nominee,” said Democratic pollster Fred Yang of Hart Research Associates, who conducted this survey.

At 25 percent, Trump had the lowest positive approval ratings of all the candidates in the field, followed by Ted Cruz at 27 percent. By comparison, Obama’s rating is 47 percent, Bernie Sanders was at 43 percent and Marco Rubio was at 28 percent.

The poll was conducted March 3rd-6th among 1,200 registered voters with an overall margin or error of plus or minus 2.8 percent.
