New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is stumping for a Republican gubernatorial candidate in Illinois again, heading back into the home state of President Obama.
After stumping for businessman Bruce Rauner in July, Christie will attend one public and two private events in Springfield, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.
Officially, he’s doing the events as chairman of the Republican Governors Association, though a Republican win in Illinois would help Christie’s potential 2016 presidential campaign too.
Christie will then return to New Jersey for another fundraiser, a sold-out event billed as a birthday celebration for Christie that will feature 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
Rauner is ahead of incumbent Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn by seven points, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.
