Mourning’s big weekend

‘Zo visits the China Grove

It wasn’t hard to spot former Georgetown basketball standout and NBA star Alonzo Mourning around town this weekend. The legendary center arrived Friday evening to sign copies of his new book, “Resilience: Faith, Focus, Triumph” at the Hudson News in Union Station.

On Saturday, ‘Zo was spotted courtside at Verizon Center, taking in his alma mater’s victory over Drexel (and undoubtedly checking on the progress of the Hoyas’ next great center, Greg Monroe).

Then on Saturday evening, Mourning was a featured guest at the National Kidney Foundation’s annual Kidney Ball at the Hilton Washington (Mourning is a kidney transplant recipient).

The entertainment at the ball: ’70s rockers the Doobie Brothers.
