Elizabeth Edwards’ family released a statement Monday saying her cancer had spread and that her health had deteriorated.
The former political wife also wrote on her Facebook fan page, inspiring hundreds to leave messages of love and support within minutes on the social network.
“The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that,” Edwards wrote.
Edwards first began battling cancer in 2004 and it returned in early 2007, just as her estranged husband began running for the presidency a second time.
