Trump: U.S. ‘needs the Tom Brady of negotiators’

Donald Trump argued Monday that the U.S. needs a strong person in the White House negotiating for the U.S. interest, someone on the level of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

In an interview with Fox Sports 1, Trump told “The Herd” host with Colin Cowherd that the U.S. needs “the Tom Brady of negotiators” sitting at the table to create trade pacts and deals with foreign nations, something many of his opponents are incapable of emulating.

The real estate tycoon argued to Cowherd that the likes of Sen. Marco Rubio and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush aren’t in the same league.

“If you’re dealing with China, these people send in fierce, fierce negotiators. These are fierce people, and we don’t need low energy,” Trump said, repeating his attack on Bush. “I don’t think, frankly, Rubio is going to make it. I think, to me, he’s a lightweight.”

“We need very strong people because our country is being taken away like candy from a baby. It’s like candy from a baby. That’s what’s happening to our country. We need strong people,” Trump said. “We need the Tom Brady of negotiators. We need, and by the way, Tom is someone that’s such a great guy. But we need the Tom Brady of dealers because we can’t continue to make horrible, horrible trade deals, stupid deals with Iran.”

“People are tired of it and I think that’s why I’ve resonated,” Trump concluded.

The GOP front-runner went on to tout Brady as one of the few people who do better “under pressure” than they do in normal circumstances, and said the likes of Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus were in the same mold as Brady.
