CNN sheds Spitzer

Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer survived a sex scandal and slumps in his CNN talk show’s ratings, but he won’t be staying on the network’s primetime lineup. CNN has announced that starting in late September, CNBC veteran Erin Burnett — CNN’s new anchor and chief business and economics correspondent — will take over Spitzer’s spot with a new show from 7 to 11 p.m. “We are in discussions with Eliot Spitzer about an alternative role,” read a statement from CNN about the new lineup. “We thank him and the entire In the Arena team for creating a program that moved many political and economic issues into the national spotlight.”
