German relations and Group of Eight summits have always been a touchy subject for the Bushes.
In 2006, President Bush gave a quick back rub to German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the G-8 Summit in Russia. Now, former first lady Laura Bush claims that in 2007, she, her husband and staff members were poisoned at the G-8 Summit in Germany, according to the New York Times, which received an advance copy of her book, “Spoken From the Heart.”
In the book, which will be released Tuesday, she writes that they all became sick during the three-day trip, and said it was poisoning.
The Secret Service investigated the coincidental illnesses, but doctors said they might have all contracted a virus instead. But her suspicions still remain: “We never learned if any other delegations became ill, or if ours, mysteriously, was the only one.”
