The gunman suspected of killing six members of a Milwaukee Sikh temple before police killed him is believed to be a decorated ex-Army soldier, who was administratively relived of duty.
Wade Michael Page, 40, served in the U.S. Army from 1992 to 1998 as a Psychological Operations Specialist. He was assigned to Ft. Sill, Okla.; Ft. Bliss, Texas and Ft. Bragg, N.C., a U.S. Army official told The Washington Examiner.
Page was a decorated soldier, but was administratively discharged in 1998, according to Lt. Col. Lisa A. Garcia, an Army spokeswoman. She did not disclose the reason behind the discharge. Service members can be administratively discharged for a variety of reasons, including performance, conduct, or physical and mental conditions that inhibit their ability to serve.
Local authorities in Wisconsin have scheduled a Monday press conference to provide additional information about the suspect.
