Florida Dems go after Rubio over finances

The Florida Democratic Party tried to resurrect the issue of Sen. Marco Rubio’s finances with an ad released Monday, one day before the fifth GOP debate.

The ad, titled “The Rubio Card,” echoes attacks from Donald Trump over Rubio’s use of credit cards issued to him by the Republican Party of Florida. In early November, the Rubio campaign released the detailed charges by the Florida senator on the card, which had largely put the issue to rest until now.

“You’re a politician on the go, and you’ve got a lot of expenses. Sure, you could use your personal credit card, but you’re looking for something a little more nefarious,” the pitch man says in the ad. “What you need is the Rubio Card. This is your opportunity to be as financially reckless and irresponsible as Marco Rubio.”

“The Rubio card not only allows for preposterous expenses, it encourages them,” the salesman says.

“So, apply today! There’s no credit check, no application and absolutely no credibility,” the ad says. “You don’t even need to show up for your job! Because why be ethical, when you can be Marco Rubio?”

The ad finishes up by saying that the card cannot be used for some items, including “women’s health, income inequality … or doing the work of an actual U.S. senator.”

Rubio, who had the card for nearly four years, has been dogged for years by the use of the RPOF card. The issue came up during his 2010 race during which he won his U.S. Senate seat against former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist.
