Clinton team stays active in GOP debate

While Hillary Clinton did not watch Wednesday night’s GOP debate, her rapid response team was keeping an eye on the contest, constantly updating Hillary supporters with opposition research.

The minute-by-minute detailing of the Republicans’ remarks offered counterexamples as how Clinton has stronger views on the issues. When the GOP candidates attacked her record as secretary of state, the Clinton camp responded that her record is strong and that “before political season, [the GOP candidates] praised it.”

Clinton’s campaign team also highlighted GOP front-runner Donald Trump’s “backwards immigration plan,” listing his plans for mass deportation and building a wall as examples. The team also called out Ben Carson’s, Jeb Bush’s and Carly Fiorina’s stances on immigration for being too far to the right.

“Hillary has fought for immigration reform her entire career,” her press team said in an e-mail. “Nearly all the Republicans on stage oppose a real pathway to citizenship. Who really stands with America’s Latino community? The choice is clear.”

Rather than watching the debate, Clinton spent the evening taping a segment with Jimmy Fallon in New York and attending a nearby fundraiser with Democratic donors. But despite this, the former secretary of state’s Twitter account was active throughout the debate, calling out the GOP candidates for their poor policies.

“You don’t have to be a scientist to know that climate change is an urgent challenge that threatens us all. We need to act,” Clinton tweeted.

Following up with “For a bunch of people who don’t believe in acting on climate change, the Republican candidates seem committed to recycling ideas. #GOPdebate.”
