Rep. John Lewis live-tweets his experience from ‘Bloody Sunday’ 50 years ago

Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., was part of”Bloody Sunday”in 1965.

The March 7, 1965, march dubbed “Bloody Sunday” was one of three Selma to Montgomery marches that was instrumental the passage of the Voting Rights Act, a key moment in the 1960s American Civil Rights Movement.

Congressman John Lewis was there as a member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, which was strong in its efforts to register black men and women to vote.

Lewis, who has represented Georgia’s 5th District since 1987, is now the only living “Big Six” leader of the American Civil Rights Movement. He led roughly 100 members of Congress back to Selma, Ala., this weekend to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the marches.

And he live-tweeted his experience 50 years ago for all to enjoy.
