Trump says Clinton will face ‘criminal trial’ as FBI director recommends no charges

Donald Trump said the FBI’s ongoing investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server will lead to a “criminal trial” just minutes after the agency’s director reaffirmed his previous decision not to recommend charges against the former secretary of state

In a second letter to congressional committee chairs on Sunday, FBI Director James Comey said federal investigators “have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July with respect to Secretary Clinton.” Trump kicked off a rally in Minneapolis shortly after the letter was made public, seemingly unaware of what was unfolding.

“Hillary Clinton will be under investigation for a long, long time for her many crimes against our nation, our people, our democracy, likely concluding in a criminal trial,” he told his supporters.

“You have to understand, it’s a rigged system and she’s protected,” the Republican presidential nominee said of Clinton. “So many other people were not protected. She’s protected by a rigged system. She is the most corrupt person ever to seek the presidency of the United States.”

At an earlier rally in Sioux City, Iowa, Trump said he had “little doubt that FBI director Comey and the great special agents within the FBI will be able to collect more than enough evidence to garner indictments against Hillary Clinton and her inner circle …”

A spokesperson for the Trump campaign did not return the Washington Examiner‘s request for comment.
