Staffers at the Washington Times let out a collective sigh of relief with the announcement Tuesday that the struggling newspaper’s sale was complete. The paper was purchased by News World Media Development, a Unification Church entity headed by former Chairman Douglas M. Joo. He met with the staff Tuesday morning to discuss “rigorous” expansion plans, including the addition of sports, metro, entertainment and additional opinion coverage, according to FishbowlDC.
Last December the paper laid off a large chunk of its editorial staffers, including the entire sports section. So far, there’s been no word of any big changes in editorial.
Editor Sam Dealey told Yeas & Nays he couldn’t comment.
