New poll gives Clinton, Trump narrow Wis. leads

Most recent Wisconsin primary polls have shown front-runners Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump trailing, but a new survey found them both narrowly head.

According to an American Research Group survey released Monday afternoon, Clinton leads Sanders 49 percent to 48 percent among Wisconsin Democratic voters. Sanders leads Clinton among male voters 54-44 and among independents or Republicans voting in the Democratic primary 68-31, but the former secretary of state leads him among women 53-44 and self-identified Democrats 57-40.

In the GOP, Trump leads Cruz 42-32, with John Kasich trailing behind at 23 percent. Trump leads Cruz among self-reported Republicans 46-34 and also leads Cruz and Kasich among self-reported independents and Democrats 35-31-30 percent. While Trump leads Cruz among male voters 57-23 percent, his largest deficit occurs among female voters. Women in Wisconsin prefer Cruz (43 percent) to Kasich (29 percent), but only 24 percent support Trump.

The poll taken April 1-3 among 400 random Democratic and Republican voters in Wisconsin. The survey has a margin of effort of 5 percentage points.
