Nearly a dozen female pro-life activists are urging Iowa voters to reject Donald Trump in the state’s Republican presidential caucuses next week.
Trump “cannot be trusted” on the issue of “defending unborn children and protecting women from the violence of abortion,” wrote Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser and Concerned Women for America President Penny Nance in a letter to Iowa voters, also signed by eight other activists.
They wrote that instead of supporting Trump, Iowans should vote for any of the other Republican presidential contenders, all of whom oppose abortion. While Trump has recently said he now opposes abortion, that’s a switch from his views in the past. The GOP front-runner also has suggested he would nominate his sister, a federal judge, to the Supreme Court, even though she once overturned a partial-birth abortion ban.
“America will only be a great nation when we have leaders of strong character who will defend both unborn children and the dignity of women,” the women wrote. “We cannot trust Donald Trump to do either. Therefore we urge our fellow citizens to support an alternative candidate.”
The letter was also signed by Iowa Right to Life Director Jenifer Bowen, Concerned Women for America Founder Beverly LaHaye, SBA List Vice President of Government Affairs Marilyn Musgrave and Urbancure President Star Parker.
