Donald Trump continued to defend campaign manager Corey Lewandowski at a rally Tuesday evening, assuring his supporters he has no plans to fire his campaign manager.

Hours after Lewandowski was charged with misdemeanor battery for grabbing ex-Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields by the arm, Trump said “the easiest thing” to do would be to tell him, “you’re fired.”

The Republican presidential front-runner described Lewandowski as “a nice guy” and said dismissing him from his campaign “would destroy a man’s life.”

“I can’t do that. Can’t do it,” Trump said.

The billioniare made the comments, which were nearly identical to what he told reporters during an impromptu press conference hours before, at his first campaign rally in nine days, held in Janesville, Wisconsin.

After reading the reporter’s original statement aloud at his rally, an individual in the crowd suggested Lewandowski may have grabbed Fields’ arm to keep her from falling down, a theory Trump embraced.

An NBC News reporter at Trump’s rally claimed several of his supporters described Field’s allegations as “crap,” and few suggested Lewandowski should be fired.

Trump will join CNN’s Anderson Cooper Tuesday night in the 8 o’clock hour Eastern time for a town hall series in advance of Wisconsin’s April 5 Republican primary.
