Some of wine’s heavy hitters meet those from the political arena in next week’s Heart’s Delight, a series of tastings and seminars, dinners and auctions that benefit the American Heart Association.
There are plenty of highlights. Some top-flight American wines are being poured Wednesday on the rooftop of Charlie Palmer Steak on Capitol Hill. Thursday is a series of more than a dozen private wine dinners at embassies, homes and restaurants around the Washington area. Friday is a vintner’s dinner at the Andrew V. Mellon Auditorium featuring the tres magnifique Bordeaux wines of Chateau Haut Brion followed by a live auction led by Sotheby’s Jamie Ritchie. Saturday is the Grand Tasting and Auction at the Omni Shoreham.
Among those expected: Former Vice President Dick Cheney will receive an award at Saturday’s dinner. Wine writer extraordinaire Jancis Robinson will lead a Bordeaux tasting Saturday. Chefs include Daniel Giusti (1789 Restaurant), Brian McBride (Blue Duck Tavern) and Jeff Tunks (Acadiana, Passionfish, etc.).
Over the past 11 years, Heart’s Delight has raised more than $9 million for the American Heart Association.
