‘Garbage Pail Kids’ take on the politicians

As the presidential candidates ramp up their stump speech campaigns in Iowa and New Hampshire just weeks before the start of primary season, a select few will be making appearances in hobby shops around the country.

Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are all getting their own “Garbage Pail Kids” cards.

On the shelves since 1985, the “Garbage Pail Kids” feature baby-faced characters parodying the popular “Cabbage Patch Kids” dolls and poking fun at “everything and anything,” according to Topps, the chewing gum and collectibles company that prints the cards. The collectables were a big hit in the 1980s and even led to the production of a live action movie based on the trading cards in 1987.

The 2016 candidates are a part of a card set dubbed “Garbage Pail Kids: American as Apple Pie In Your Face,” which “celebrates the history of the U.S., and parodying uniquely American things,” the company wrote in a blog post.

Each card sports an alliterative name and is depicted doing something one might consider less than savory, some of which hearken back to scandals that have haunted some of candidates.

For example, Clinton’s card, labeled “Hounded Hillary,” shows the her surreptitiously kicking away a computer with a list of emails on the screen, which is a nod to the investigation into the the former secretary of state’s private email server.

Trump, whose card is a recreation of a 2004 version of the billionaire businessman, is seen sitting on a gold toilet, unrolling a ream of toilet paper that looks a lot like the Constitution. His name on the card is “Donald Dump.”

The three remaining cards are:

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, aka “Joyless Jeb.”

Former neurosurgeon Ben Carson, aka “Brainy Ben.”

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, aka “Berserk Bernie.”

This isn’t the first time the “Garbage Pail Kids” did politics. Check out former President Ronald Reagan, aka “Rappin’ Ron.”
