New polls say Donald Trump leads the Republican presidential field by more than 20 points in both New York and Pennsylvania, states where he’s hoping to recapture his momentum after a string of recent losses to Sen. Ted Cruz.
Among Democrats, front-runner Hillary Clinton also leads rival Sen. Bernie Sanders by double-digits in both states’ upcoming primary contests, according to Fox News polls released Sunday.
In the Fox News poll in New York, Trump’s home-state, Trump was supported by 54 percent of likely GOP primary voters, while Ohio Gov. John Kasich captured 22 percent and Cruz earned 15 percent. Another 6 percent said they did not know who they would vote for in the April 19 primary.
Ninety-five delegates are up for grabs in New York.
Clinton, who was a senator for New York from 2001 to 2009, leads Sanders, a Brooklyn-native, 53-37 among Democrats. Another 6 percent said they didn’t know who they would support.
In the Fox News Pennsylvania poll, Trump has a similar lead over Kasich among likely primary voters, 48 percent to 22 percent. Cruz has 20 percent and another 8 percent aren’t sure.
Clinton leads Sanders 49-38 in Pennsylvania, where 7 percent of Democrats are undecided. Sanders, who won the Wyoming primary April 9, has beat Clinton in the last seven contests.
In general election matchups, Clinton beats Trump in New York by double-digits, 53-37, and ties in Pennsylvania, 44-44.
The New York poll surveyed 1,403 New York voters between April 4-7. For Democrats, 801 likely primary voters were polled carrying a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points; for 602 likely Republicans primary voters, the margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
The Pennsylvania poll surveyed 1,607 Pennsylvania voters between April 4-7; the margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points for both Republicans and Democrats.
