MSNBC’s Scarborough: ‘Carson is not qualified to be president of the United States’

MSNBC personality Joe Scarborough appeared distraught that the GOP that elected him to Congress in 1994 would support Ben Carson for president in 2016.

“Ben Carson is not qualified to be president of the United States,” Scarborough said. “I’m not here going, ‘I wish Nelson Rockefeller was still alive because that’s when we won …’ I’m not that guy. I think McCain was too moderate. I think Romney was too moderate. I want a conservative’s conservative, but I want a conservative who can win.”

Carson, who ranks second in the Washington Examiner‘s presidential power rankings, has finished second in several national polls. A world renowned former neurosurgeon from a modest upbringing, his life story was made into a movie starring Cuba Gooding Jr., titled “Gifted Hands.”

Scarborough did not appear impressed by Carson’s performance thus far and called the presidential candidate “a mellow dude that happened to know how to get conjoined twins [separated].” The MSNBC host continued to lament the “total colossal failure of Republican leaders” on the campaign trail.

“This is not about me not getting my party,” Scarborough continued. “I don’t want it to be a moderate party. I don’t want it to be a Rockefeller; I want a rock-ribbed conservative that can kick a– and not only win elections, but can take this country back.”

The Carson campaign did not immediately respond to request for comment.
