Joints and tweets swayed Killer Mike to back Sanders

“Smoking a joint and reading his tweets,” the rapper said to reporters at Sunday evening’s Democratic debate in South Carolina, when asked why he supports Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders for president.

Killer Mike endorsed Sanders in November, at a rally in his home town of Atlanta, Ga., citing Sanders’ dedication to the civil rights fight. Before the rally, the two dined at a local restaurant and visited the burial site of civil rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr.

Killer Mike’s support is a significant victory for Sanders, who has struggled to reach out to minority voters during his campaign.

Given Sanders’ stance on ending the federal ban on marijuana, Killer Mike has plenty of reason to light another one up and rally support for the democratic socialist.
