Wasserman Schultz: Democrats will keep the Senate, add governors

Americans go to the polls Tuesday dissatisfied with the economy and President Obama’s job performance, but Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz remains confident for Democrats.

The Florida Democrat and chair of the Democratic National Committee predicts Democrats will hold the Senate and the election will yield more Democratic governors.

She also says that the GOP is stifling progress the Democrats and Obama have made on fixing the economy.

“Well, I think people recognize that we have been brought of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and that’s thanks to Barack Obama’s and Democrats’ policies,” she said Tuesday on MSNBC.

Wasserman Schultz cited job creation, reduction in the federal deficit and GDP growth as Democratic selling points.

She also believes Democratic candidates have “hit the right balance” between issues such as the economy and women’s healthcare.

If Democrats hold onto the Senate, thus keeping Congress split — or even if Republicans takes control of the Senate — Wasserman Schultz said the GOP will have to answer the important question of “if they are ready to govern.”

Americans “just want us to work together,” she said.

“I think that voters will go to the polls today and vote for making sure that we can move forward, not backward, and that’s why we’ll have some success today,” she concluded.
