Harper: No cursing at local charity benefit

Like a Rock

Rock Harper, our first local cooking reality show champ, made a triumphant return to Washington on Tuesday night for the annual Capital Food Fight to benefit D.C. Central Kitchen.

“Chef Rock” won the third season of “Hell’s Kitchen,” after which he moved from B. Smith’s at Union Station to the Green Valley Ranch Resort outside Las Vegas.

At the Ronald Reagan Building on Tuesday, Harper was asked during his cooking demonstration how it compared to being screamed at by Gordon Ramsay on camera. “This is much more difficult,” he replied, referencing his short stint at the stove. “At least I had 45 minutes before.”

But isn’t there less yelling? “It’s a family affair, so I held back on the cursing,” he joked. “But I’m thinking about it.”

After his demonstration, Chef Rock settled into judging duties with the Food Nework’s Dave Lieberman as local chefs Barton Seaver, David Deshaies, Tony Conte and Peter Smith battled it out, Iron Chef style.
