Japanese ambassador views World Cup ‘privately’

Japanese Ambassador to the United States Ichiro Fujisaki was pro-Team USA at a pre-match barbecue at his residence Saturday afternoon, saying he hoped the U.S. would beat the Brits in their first World Cup clash since 1950.

But when asked about his own team, he was less enthusiastic.

Looking to save face, the ambassador explained that Japan, which played Cameroon on Monday (and beat that team 1-0) plays in a different group than the United States does.

When Yeas & Nays asked him on Saturday how he would watch Monday’s game, Fujisaki quickly replied: “Privately.”

Enough said.
