Liz Cheney set to launch House bid in Wyoming

Liz Cheney, the eldest daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, is poised to announce a bid for Wyoming’s House seat on Monday, according to a report Saturday.

Cheney, 49, will publicly announce a House bid on Monday, the Associated Press reported.

Cheney has been widely expected to seek the seat since November, when Rep. Cynthia Lumis, a Republican who represents Wyoming’s one congressional district, announced she will not run for re-election.

In 2014, Cheney launched a primary challenge to Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi, a fellow Republican. The challenge to the popular incumbent by Cheney, who spent much of her life in Washington, drew ire among many Wyoming Republicans. Trailing in the polls, Cheney withdrew from the race, citing a health issue involving one of her children.

During her short Senate bid, Cheney announced opposition to same-sex marriage, causing a public break with her sister Mary, who married a woman, Heather Poe, in 2012.

Dick Cheney represented Wyoming in the House from 1979 to 1989.
