Trump team brushes off ‘worst week ever’

A senior adviser to Donald Trump reportedly sent a memo to several top campaign staffers over the weekend suggesting that much of the campaign’s recent woes seem worse because of Trump’s critics in the press.

“So this week, the Media and the Washington Establishment bashed the campaign with energy yet ever seen against a Republican candidate,” Barry Bennett wrote in the email, obtained by the Washington Post.

He continued, “You name the medium and it was dominated with Trump Attacks. The media themselves couldn’t wait to label the week, THE WORST WEEK EVER.'”

According to Bennett’s email, which he titled “Digging through the Bull S—-,” Trump has continued to increase his lead over Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, despite the array of issues he and his campaign have encountered over the past two weeks.

Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski was arrested and charged on March 30 with battery against a female reporter. Days later, during a televised town hall on MSNBC, Trump said there has to be “some form of punishment” for women who’ve had abortions. He was later walked back the statement after facing backlash from both the pro-choice and pro-life communities.

In his memo, Bennett insisted that criticism surrounding Trump’s comments and Lewandowski’s actions had helped give Trump a boost in national polls.

“During the media labeled “Worst Week Ever” we increased our support by over 15 percent rising 6 points to a total of 45,” he wrote.

At the end of the email, Bennett suggested that Trump had won the week, while the media and GOP insiders had created a narrative that reminded voters “why they hate the Washington Establishment.”

“Donald Trump 1 Washington Establishment/Media 0,” he wrote.
