Scott Walker seeks foreign policy credibility in Israel

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker began his five-day trip to Israel this week with a visit to several historic and religious sites, including the Western Wall and Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

Walker billed the trip as a “listening tour,” and his team indicated that he would not be making public appearances while overseas.

After being photographed at the Western Wall on Sunday, Walker was photographed with Natan Sharansky, a human rights activist and former political prisoner in the Soviet Union who heads the Jewish Agency for Israel.

Walker, an evangelical Christian, is making his first-ever trip to Israel this week. In a poll released on Sunday, New Hampshire Republicans named him as their top choice for president alongside Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

On Monday, the governor will receive more briefings from Israeli public officials on a variety of policy matters and take a helicopter tour, Walker announced on Twitter. The Republican Jewish Coalition and Our American Revival, Walker’s political group, are paying for the trip, which will end when Walker returns on Thursday.
